J.P. Morgan appoints new China IB head, two senior bankers leave Coutts

There have been some key moves in the Asia-Pacific region over the past week, these are the ones you need to know about.

J.P.Morgan announced new head of global IB for China

Houston Huang, a prominent dealmaker of Goldman Sachs, will be joining J.P.Morgan later this year as head of global investment banking for China.

At Goldman, Huang was most recently head of its China industrial group, where he worked on big deals such as the IPO of China Railway Signal & Communications. Prior to that, he worked for China International Capital Corporation (CICC) for about eleven years, where he was once head of European investment banking.

Once on board, Huang will report to David Li, chairman and CEO for China and co-head of banking for Greater China.

Coutts loses two senior bankers

Tow senior bankers at the private bank Coutts have announced their departure. One is Johnny Heng, head of investment services for Asia; the other is Yee Chin Lit, managing director and head of Indonesia market.

Both Heng and Yee worked for Credit Suisse before joining Coutts.

Macquarie names new bosses for Asia ECM

The Australian investment bank Macquarie has named Arthur Van Dijk and Jack Yee as co-heads of equity capital markets (ECM) in Asia.

Van Dijk was promoted internally from a role of the ECM team with a focus in North Asia, while Yee joined from Barclays where he was head of blocks origination for Asia-Pacific.

There will be a division of responsibilities where Van Dijk will be in charge of deal origination while Yee will focus on syndication.

Pioneer Investments makes three senior hires

Asset Manager Pioneer Investment made three senior hires in Asia recently.

They are: Johnny Wang as CEO and managing director of Taiwan operations; Amy Wang as head of Greater China – institutions; and Anthony Heredia as CEO of Baroda Pioneer Asset Management, a joint venture business of Pioneer in India.

Having previously worked for various firms such as UBS Global Asset Management and HSBC Global Asset Management, Johnny Wang has over 20 years’ experience in the asset management industry. Meanwhile, Amy Wang used to work for institutions such as IMF and Fitch Ratings. She has over 15 years’ experience in financial industry.

Amundi appoints new chief economist

Global asset management company Amundi has named Mo Ji the new chief economist for Asia ex-Japan.

Ji joins from Azentus Capital Management. She will be in charge of economic research work in Asia.

Based in Hong Kong, she will report to Philippe Ithurbide, global head of research, strategy and analysis.

OTPP names new APAC head

Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) has relocated Nicole Musicco from Toronto to Hong Kong over the summer and has named her the new Asia-Pacific head. Prior to the move, Musicco was vice president of Teachers’ Private Capital.

OTPP opened its Hong Kong office in 2013 and hired two directors Dan Kiang and Olivia Ouyang last year. Musicco’s move is seen as a sign for the pension plan to further expand into the region.

Aberdeen AM appoints South Korea senior manager

Aberdeen Asset Management has appointed Dong-Ki Kim as a senior manager, based in Seoul.

Joining from Russell Investments Korea, Kim will be helping Aberdeen AM to expand its activities under the representative license it currently holds in the country.
