J.P.Morgan hires senior bankers for China, HSBC names deputy DCM head

Despite holidays in China, there have still been a few high-level moves in the Asia-Pacific region. These are the ones you need to know about.

J.P.Morgan makes senior hires in China

J.P. Morgan recently made two senior hires to its investment banking unit in China. Kelvin Cho is joining to run the ECM team for Greater China. He’s moving from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he was most recently a director in ECM in Greater China. Based in Hong Kong, he will report to David Suen, head of ECM for Asia ex-Japan. Meanwhile, Xueqian Pu has been named vice chairman of global investment banking for China. He joins from Rothschild, where he was the former head of China investment banking.

ANZ promotes CFO

ANZ has announced that CFO Shayne Elliott will succeed Mike Smith as CEO from next year. Elliott, 51, joined ANZ in 2009 and has been CFO for the past three years. Prior to ANZ, he held senior positions in Citigroup for over 20 years across many parts of the world.

Maybank AM Singapore chief resigns

After in the job for three years, the Singapore head of Maybank Asset Management, Goh Seng Kee has resigned. He will “start something on my own”, as he told the media. Goh launched Maybank AM’s funds business in Singapore in 2014. He joined the firm in 2012 from BNP Paribas Asset Management, where he was a director and portfolio manager. Maybank AM has chosen Goh’s replacement and is waiting for regulatory approval.

Standard Chartered Private Bank names new Taiwan head

Vicky Lin has been recently named head of Taiwan market private banking at Stan Chart. This is a newly created position, in which she will be responsible for the offshore Taiwanese market. She joins from Morgan Stanley where she was an executive director for private wealth management for Taiwan and Greater China. Based in Hong Kong, she will report to Desmond Liu, managing director and head of private banking for Greater China and North Asia.

UBS WM appoints new Asia MD

Adeline Chien has been named as a new managing director at UBS Wealth Management. Based in Hong Kong, she will be responsible for formulating business strategy as well as overseeing day-to-day operations. Before being named MD, she was previously a country team head at UBS WM. Prior to that, she also had stints with EFG Bank and Barclays.

HSBC names DCM executive in Asia

HSBC has named Sean Henderson as deputy head of debt capital markets (DCM) for Asia Pacific. At the same time, he will also take charge of capital financing for Singapore. Before this appointment, Henderson has been head of capital financing for HSBC in Australia and New Zealand. Based in Singapore, he will report to Alexi Chan, global co-head of DCM and head of DCM for Asia Pacific.

HSBC India head retires

HSBC has announced that its India head Naina Lal Kidwai will retire by the end of this year. Kidwai has been with HSBC for 13 years and has been in roles such as the chairman of HSBC India and executive director on the board of HSBC Asia-Pacific.

Amundi appoints CIO for Asia ex-Japan

Anthony Ho has been appointed as chief investment officer for Asia ex-Japan at the global asset management company Amundi. He will become deputy CEO of Amundi Hong Kong as well. Based in Hong Kong, Ho will report to Xiaofeng Zhong, CEO of Amundi Hong Kong and Romain Boscher, global head of equities. He joins from CIFM Hong Kong, where he was the CEO.

Liquidnet hires head of quantitative analytics

Tony Cheung has been hired as head of quantitative analytics at Liquidnet, a global institutional trading network. He joins from BNP Paribas where he was head of product management for electronic trading. Based in Hong Kong, Cheung will report to Lee Porter, head of Asia Pacific, and to Akis Georgiou, head of quantitative sales and analytics. Once started, he will be working on providing the firm’s buy-side members with insight and analysis on their trades
